Mare Island

A group of photographers spent the morning recently photographing parts of Mare Island, including the insides of some buildings that are usually closed. Mare Island was a the first naval station on the West Coast, although it closed as a naval base in 1996. It is now undergoing mixed-use redevelopment, although some ship repair work is still carried out there. Many of the formerly busy workshops are now empty, as you can see.

I added some of these photos to my larger Mare Island gallery.
